One of the main uses of large spacing conveyor chains is for water treatment facilities. In a large sewage treatment facility, sewage passes through several tanks where solid waste is removed by sedimentation and flotation.
In the sludge pond, use vacuum or V-shaped bucket to remove sand and dirt. In the sedimentation tank, the sludge in the water or on its surface is scraped to the outlet, and a “ladder” (plate) is installed every 3 m between the 2 chains. The sewage treatment chain (ACS chain) is used for this process. Remove accumulated dirt with a pump.
Cast iron chains have been used in sewage treatment facilities. In this corrosive environment, chain deterioration is inevitable. Due to corrosion, the volume of the chain material is reduced and the wear is accelerated. In order to offset the material loss caused by corrosion, cast iron chains become quite heavy, but the tension required in water treatment applications does not justify the use of chains with such high tensile strength.
In the mid-1960s, Japan developed ACS stainless steel chains, especially for water treatment facilities. The stainless steel construction ensures excellent corrosion resistance, thus eliminating the need for overweight cast iron chains. Because of its superior function, ACS chain has been widely recognized.
The chain is also used to transport corrosive objects in ordinary scraper conveyors.
